Hildreth and Snell steer Sabres to victory
James Hildreth and Steve Snell got the Somerset Sabres t20 Champions League qualifying campaign off to the perfect start thanks to a five wicket victory over the Aukland Aces.
The pair shared a 6th wicket stand of 61 to steer home the Friends Life t20 runner ups, who completed victory from the final ball of the match to knock the Aces out of contention after they suffered their second loss in the space of 24 hours.
Before Hildreth (34) and Snell (34) arrived at the crease the Sabres were in trouble, having slipped to just 64-5 in their attempts to chase down the Aces total of 125-7.
Having played so well against the Kolkata Knight Riders last night, the Aces will be disappointed by the performance, especially with the bat after they slumped to just 14-3 having won the toss.
Lou Vincent (47) and Gareth Hopkins (22) led the Kiwi’s recovery but the Sabres remained in control to seal a vital victory to set up a winner takes all clash against the Knight Riders tomorrow night.
