Super Kings see off rivals to capture Jadeja

The Chennai Super Kings saw off a host of other IPL franchises after an intense bidding war to sign Indian youngster Ravindra Jadeja for a mammoth $2 million.

The 23-year-old, who started the auction with a base price of $100,000, quickly saw his value raise as the Super Kings and Chargers tried to out bid each other to sign the most sought after player in the Auction.

With the bid reaching the cap of $2 million, the Super Kings and Chargers entered a secret tie-breaker which was won by the defending IPL champions; as per IPL rules the secret amount will be paid straight to the BCCI.

Others players who were in demand included former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene who was signed by the Delhi Daredevils for $1.4 million after playing for the now disbanded Kochi Tusker Kerala last year.

Another former Tusker, Brendon McCullum, found a new home after being brought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for $900,000 while Indian wicket keeper Parthiv Patel was signed by the Deccan Chargers for $650,000.

As in previous year's England's international players weren't in demand because of their availability for the tournament which is restricted because of their home Test series against West Indies in May.
