Williamson cameo helps see off Zimbabwe

Kane Williamson smashed 20 runs from just five deliveries to help New Zealand seal a five wicket victory over Zimbabwe to win their t20 International series 2-0 after a mammoth run chase at Seddon Park.

Faced with a victory target of 201, the Kiwi’s looked out of contention with 27 runs needed from the final two overs but Williamson held his nerve to dispatch three boundaries and a six to seal victory with two balls to spare.

Despite the loss of Brendon McCullum (38) and Nathan McCullum (5) in the penultimate over Williamson saw the Kiwi’s home in fine style, smashing Shingi Masakadza (0-30) for a boundary through point to win the game.

Faced with such a big run chase, Rob Nicol (56) and James Franklin (60) got the Kiwi’s off to a good start thanks to an opening stand of 103 which was only ended by Elton Chigumbura (2-23) at the start of the 11th over when he dismissed Nicol.

Franklin quickly followed as the tourists took control of the match but they were unable to seal the victory after the last over heroics from Williamson who denied Zimbabwe their first victory of a disappointing tour.

Despite losing Zimbabwe will be buoyed by the performances of Hamilton Masakadza (62) and Brendan Taylor (75) who stared with the bat to help the tourists posts am impressive total of 200-2.

Taylor lead the way, smashing six boundaries and three sixes to end the match as the leading scorer after record a well deserved half century to end the tour on a high.
