Fearless Bisla leads Knight Riders to IPL title

The Kolkata Knight Riders sealed their first IPL title after an incredibly tense five wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Faced with a victory target of 191 the Knight Riders sealed victory with two balls to spare thanks to Manoj Tiwary (9) who smashed a boundary off the bowling of Dwayne Bravo (1-49).

The defeat ends the Super Kings two year rain over the tournament after their bowlers were unable to defend a total of 191 as they suffered a bitter defeat at their own ground.

Manvinder Bisla led the Knight Riders run chase with a fearless 89 to keep Gautam Gambhir (2) side in the game after the early loss of the skipper at the end of the first over.

The opener smashed eight boundaries and five sixes to set up the victory despite being dismissed by Albie Morkel in the 15th over as control of the match swung from team to team.

Laxmi Shukla (3) and Yusuf Pathan (1) quickly followed before Ben Hilfenhaus (2-25) removed Jaques Kallis (69) in the penultimate over to leave the Knight Rider needing 9 runs from the final over.

With the pressure mounting Shakib Al Hasan (11) and Tiwary held their nerve to seal victory and spark wild celebrations in the Knight Riders dugout.

Having won the previous two tournaments, the Super Kings were left to reflect an a defeat which seemed unlikely at the end of their innings thanks to another display of big hitting.

Just two nights after scoring 222 runs against the Delhi DareDevils, the Super Kings lead the way with the bat again thanks to a quick fire 73 from Suresh Raina to help the defending champions record a total of 190-3.

Michael Hussey (54) and Murali Vijay (42) offered Raina support to help the Super Kings set the Knight Riders an imposing total of 191 to win their first IPL title.
