Gayle and Pollard power Windies to victory

Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard were at their big hitting best to help the West Indies seal a 56 run victory over New Zealand in the first of two t20 Internationals at the Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, Florida.

The pair shared a third wicket stand of 108 to help the West Indies record a mammoth total of 209-2 which was too much for the Kiwis who struggled to post a total of 153-8 in reply.

Chris Gayle led the way with a mammoth 85 from just 52 balls which included seven boundaries and five sixes much to the delight of the crowd which was mostly made up of West India fans.

Pollard (63) offered support by smashing five boundaries and five sixes during a quick fire 29 ball innings to leave the Kiwis facing a daunting run chase of 210.

Faced with such a hard target to chase down it was no surprise that the Kiwis struggled to stay in the hunt as they lost wickets at regular intervals throughout their innings to end the match second best.

Rob Nicol (32) and Jacob Oram (27) offered the most resistantís during the Kiwisís stuttering innings which was ended in the penultimate over when Oram was dismissed by Fidel Edwards (27)

With Ross Taylor (10) retired hurt and Ronnie Hira missing because of a finger injury he picked up in the West Indies, the Kiwiís ended the match two men as the Windies started the celebrations.
