Pakistan seal victory after super over triumph
Pakistan held there nerve to seal a unsalable 2-0 series lead against Australia thanks to a tense super over victory against the Aussies at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Faced with a victory target of 12, Umar Akmal hit the winning runs from the final ball of the super over after Pat Cummins had bowled a wide to level the scores after Australia scored 11 runs from their super over.
The super over capped a memorable match with was full of tension after Pakistan set Australia a victory target of 152 in a must win game for the visitors after their seven wicket defeat on Wednesday.
The Aussies run chase got off to the perfect start thanks to David Warner (31), Shane Watson (33) and Michael Hussey (23) before Saeed Ajmal (2-20) lead a Pakistan fight back to leave Australia 117-5 in the 17th over.
With the game seemingly over, skipper George Bailey smashed a quick fire 45 which included four boundaries and two sixes before a final over full of drama which sent a tense encounter into a super over.
With ten runs needed from the final over Abdul Razzaq (2-9) struck to remove Bailey to put Pakistan seemingly in control before Cummins hit back after he dispatched the penultimate ball of the game for a six to level the scores.
With the tension mounting, Razzaq hit back once again to dismiss Cummins to set up the super over.
Earlier a quick fire 42 from Kamran Akmal helped Pakistan take control of their t20 International against Australia after they recorded a total of 151-4 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Akmal smashed six boundaries from just 26 deliveries to leave the Aussies facing a run chase of 152 to save the series after they slumped to a seven wicket defeat against Pakistan on Wednesday night.
Mohammad Hafeez (45) amd Nasir Jamshed (45) got Pakistans innings off to the perfect start despite the early loss on under pressure opener Imran Nazir (0) who was bowled by Mitchel Starc (1-17) at the start of the second over.
